SFX Weekender is now Sci-Fi Weekender
Honestly, I think this is a crap name.
I've just got off the phone with Neil from Chic who explained a little more why they were doing it.
He did say that the SFX Award ceremony was the only thing "up in the air" at the moment as SFX need to concentrate on their digital expansion. They hope they will have it, but they won't know for certain until later on in the year.
The date *has* moved. This wasn't explained in the email, but it is on their new site. The new date is the 1st to 3rd March with the pre-party on the 28th February. Apparently they were advised by agents and artists that this is a better time to do it in order to avoid the summer shooting schedule - so hopefully no more dropouts.
I have been to the Hafan y Môr Haven in Pwllheli and I can say it is a lot better of a location then the pontins. For one, they have all the static caravans. There are *no* one bed caravans, so every accomodation will have a 2 bed caravan automatically.
The catering on site is better too, Burger King is one advantage for the person heavily intoxicated!
I do hope that the Grand Master will be there, and I hope there will be the SFX Awards - this is where I was introduced to the outstanding Robert and Raygun and what made us want to come back again next year
Is this right? Is it caravans and not chalets?
Indeed the Haven resort is caravans. However theyre big frigging things. And very comfy. In fact theyre more comfy than those bloody chalets at Pontins. Seriously.
Wife and I managed to fall off the "Sofabed" provided in our chalet this year. All very amusing etc but also a bit painful and probably noisey for whoever was below us.
Haven would be a vast improvement for accomdation. And from what I have heard the venue is actually rather good too. Bigger in size and has much better catering facilities. Actual branded food vending outlets!
Well, if the management invite us, we will be there. And where would we be without our annual piss up, Iain?
Where would we be? Probably in a much bigger house cos the piss up costs so bloody much 
Though seriously, the annual meet up, piss up or just general get together is one of the highlights of my calander. The possibility of it not happening... well, its unthinkable. Who cares about the SF and stuff, I wanna have a good drinking session with you and Rachel. All the other stuff is just a bonus, mere gravy as it were.
Anyway, this is the main holiday that Donna and I have. Its become our main event of the year. In fact its usually the ONLY event of the year with the exception of our annual Halloween Party. So I am going to have to work on the Chic lot to get you an invite as a guest or suchlike. I may even resort to bribery and corruption to ensure that you are going to be there. There is no power in the universe that will stop me getting you an invite I tell you!
According to the Facebook page, Chic will be taking votes from their customers on who we want to see there. Apparently authors are still on their "high" priority list. I will definitely be voting for Robert to be there.
Looking at the postings, they have already taken feedback in to consideration and will be moving the checkin times from 5pm to 2pm on the Thursday. Hopefully this is the start of a better event.
Haven is most definitely static Caravans, although the last time I visited this Haven, they did have some Chalets too.. hopefully nobody will be lumbered with them!
